Runway resurfacing project

The Edinburgh Airport runway resurfacing project was completed on 19 November 2008, ahead of schedule. As a result, the airport will revert to the same operation as existed before the resurfacing project commenced, with night time aircraft movements operating from the main runway. Maintenance periods, which normally last for around ten days and require the main runway to be closed at night, will continue to take place twice a year in the spring and autumn. The next maintenance period is likely to take place in March.

Managing Director of Edinburgh Airport, Gordon Dewar said, "I would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding during this essential project. I realise the temporary change of operation at night to the secondary runway brought flights over or close to many areas not normally used to aircraft noise. That is why we worked so hard to complete the project as quickly as possible and I am pleased the works have been finished ahead of schedule."

Residents can continue to register any questions or concerns on aircraft noise by telephoning Edinburgh Airport's 24 hour freephone noise line on 0800 731 3397.
