BAA Scotland announce appointment of new managing directors at Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports

16 July 2008

BAA Scotland has today announced the team that will lead Scotland’s busiest airports into the future.

Gordon Dewar has been appointed Managing Director of Edinburgh Airport, while Amanda McMillan is to become Managing Director of Glasgow Airport. Both will take up their new roles on 1 September 2008.

The appointments follow the departure in June of Edinburgh Managing Director David Johnston to take up a new role as BAA's Group Procurement Director. Gordon Dewar, who has been Managing Director of Glasgow Airport since February 2007, has since acted as interim Managing Director of Edinburgh Airport.  He will now assume full time responsibility for Edinburgh Airport.

Together with Kevin Brown, Managing Director of Aberdeen Airport, the two managing directors will be responsible for delivering BAA Scotland’s £500 million investment plan over the next decade.

Gordon Dewar said, "It has been a privilege to lead the team at Glasgow Airport over the last 17 months, particularly in the immediate aftermath of last year's attack, when the dedication and professionalism of our staff ensured the airport was back in business within 24 hours. That ongoing hard work and commitment from the team provides Glasgow Airport with a bright future and I wish Amanda every success in taking the airport to even greater success in the years ahead.

"Having been born and brought up in Edinburgh and having spent most of my working life in the capital, I am now looking forward to returning to my home city to manage Edinburgh Airport, which is crucial to the capital’s future success. With a rapidly growing network of international routes and an ambitious programme of investment in the years ahead, I am confident we can continue to provide an airport of which Scotland's capital city can be proud.”

Amanda McMillan‘s appointment marks a return to Glasgow Airport where she worked as director of customer service before being appointed managing director of BAA's Business Support Centre at Hillington in Renfrewshire last year.

Amanda said, "I am delighted to be returning to Glasgow Airport, and to lead the team at such an important time in the airport's development.

"As a former director of customer service at Glasgow Airport, I understand the importance of delivering excellent service to our passengers, day in and day out. In the next few months, Glasgow Airport’s £31 million skyhub development, the biggest single investment by BAA Glasgow for 15 years, will open to passengers, transforming the service we offer to our passengers and providing a modern, 21st century gateway that links Scotland to the world.

"This is an exciting time for Glasgow Airport and I am thrilled to be returning to lead the airport during this important phase in its transformation."

Colin Matthews, BAA's chief executive said: "Amanda and Gordon have been key members of the BAA Scotland team over the past two years and both have a strong insight into the businesses which they will now lead. Together with Kevin Brown at Aberdeen Airport, we have a great team heading up the Scottish airports and a team committed to the cities their airports serve."
